Feb. Newsletter submission

The PTA would like to thank everyone for making Science Night a fun, successful evening.  We had good feedback from students and staff and are already thinking of new ideas for next year.

We are happy to have Movie Night just around the corner.  The 3rd Grade will be hosting UP on Friday, February 12th, 7:00pm in the MPR.  For $2.00 you will receive a bag of popcorn, a bottle of water and the movie.  As always, this is a family event, no drop-offs are allowed.

PTA is working hard to put together the 2015-16 yearbook.  If you have any great photos that you would like to share, please email them to glaciersigns@gci.net.  Order forms will be available soon!

Teacher Conferences are Feb. 17th and 18th.  The PTA likes to provide lunch for the staff during these days.  Many teachers are unable to leave the school for a break because of conference schedules.  If you would like to help, you can sign up at Perfect Potluck.com (Last name PTA, First name Oceanview password OVSEALS.)

Did you know that Ocean View PTA is one of the Pick.Click.Give programs?  When you are registering for your PFD, consider a donation.  All money received from this program is designated to playground improvements.  A committee is being formed, to start the creative ideas and work on additional funding through grants.   Let’s help build a better playground for our school and our community.

Off and Running!

Our first PTA membership meeting was September 8th, and attendance was great! I’m excited to see all the familiar parents and the new families joining us, as well as the great staff participation. Everyone seems ready and willing to step in and make Ocean View the best for our students. We have over 65 parents/guardians, teachers and staff participating. That is fabulous!

If you were unable to attend this first meeting, no worries! We try to keep everything up-to-date on our Facebook page and website. During our meeting, the budget for the school year was presented and approved. With that, we are off and running!

Our new BELIEVE fundraiser went out last Friday and I am excited to see students already out there selling to help support our school. If selling or purchasing items is not your thing, consider the buy-out program. Any donation is appreciated, and your student will still be receiving a prize!

As the leaves change color and school weeks start passing, Fall Carnival gets nearer. Committees will be created to help put on this huge community event. Many hands make for light work, and I know that our school has lots of folks with different talents to add to the event! Any help is appreciated, and no help is too small. Soon, we will be needing donations of candy, cupcakes, cookies, decorators, etc….. It will be all hands on deck!

Upcoming Events:

  • Movie Night – September 11th at 7pm, hosted by Preschool
  • Picture Day – September 29th
  • PTA Meeting – October 13th
  • Fall Carnival set-up – October 23rd
  • Fall Carnival – October 24th

Welcome to the 2015-16 School Year

Welcome to the 2015-16 school year.  It has been so good to see so many familiar faces returning to Ocean View, and wonderful to meet some new families too.  Your PTA is already busy doing what we do best; building a strong sense of community between parents/guardians, students, teachers and staff at Ocean View Elementary.

I sure hope you were able to join us last week for the Ice Cream Social.  Tomorrow, we will be hosting Cheers for Tears for all incoming kindergarten students and their families.

Please take a look on our FaceBook site and stay tuned for upcoming events!

Again, welcome to the new school year!

One more meeting to go!

Great meeting tonight!  It was good to have everyone join us, especially John from Alaska Focus with treats!!  It is hard to believe the year is almost up.  There are lots of events coming up and opportunities to volunteer!

With that being said, for some reason the upcoming events widget is not linking correctly.  To see the actual upcoming events, click on calendar above.  From there, you can click on the whole calendar.  I am unsure why it is making up events that are not documented on our calendar?  Thank you for drawing it to my attention that this was incorrect…..

Also take a look at the volunteer tab, with those opportunities to help!

It was also brought to my attention, that many parents don’t know where the money that PTA raises actually goes.  Please take a look at the tab – About/budget.  On that page, you will see that PTA pays for most of the extracurricular activities your student has available.  For example, buses for field trips, fall carnival, field day, end of the year BBQ, an allowance for each full and part time teacher, Science Night, all Battle of the Book sets and prizes, Spelling Bee fees and prizes, Geography bee and prizes, LEGO robotics, all Seal reader awards, all ice cream, hot chocolate, popcorn class parties awarded by our principal, Movie Night popcorn, water and licensure etc…….  Your fundraising time and efforts go to supplement your students education.

We appreciate our staff, families and students for all their help this year. It has been a great year and we have really “lived with-in our means” with the budget!  Way to go TEAM PTA

Tonight at the PTA meeting the slate for the board for the 2015-16 school year was announced.  This slate will be voted on at the next meeting.  President – Tiffany Patzke, Vice President – Heather Mouw, Vice President in charge of Membership – Jaime Kmet, Treasurer – Carrie Todd, Secretary – Rebecca Garcia.  If anyone would like to submit their name, please contact the PTA.  We would love to have you join our team!

Two more months!

Can you believe that this school year is nearly over?!! As the year winds down, PTA activities increase! Your PTA is busy with planning and carrying out many fun end of the year family activities.

AMP Testing has begun. Third grade had the first week of testing and did fabulously. In the past, PTA has provided snacks during the testing week. Since testing now occurs during the last week of March and all through April and in the computer room, we were not able to accommodate this. So, as a reward for completing testing, PTA is providing ice cream sundaes for your students on the Friday following each grades testing. Your students deserve a treat for working so hard.

Movie Night is this Friday evening. Third grade will be hosting this month and has chosen the movie “Matilda”. This is a great opportunity for you and your student to spend time with other families at our school. Cost is only $2.00. You receive a bottle of water, bag of popcorn and a great family flick!

City Wide Clean-Up is May 2nd. Join in with other families, and help clean-up the Ocean View Community. Garbage bags, water and popsicles will be provided. Help keep our neighborhood clean, and possibly win a prize!!

Teacher Appreciation week is May 4-8. PTA always recognizes the hard work all of our staff at Ocean View does. We will be putting our crafty minds together and coming up with some neat ways to show our gratitude. Want to be part, contact Tiffany Patzke at trpatzke@yahoo.com

Field Day and End of the Year BBQ are coming soon as well. We will need volunteers to monitor events at Field Day and help serve lunch during our BBQ. Look for sign-ups coming soon.

Yearbooks still on sale. For $20.00 your student can have a book of all the memories we shared this year at Ocean View. It has been a great one so far, and we are looking forward to all the fun in the last two months!!

Any questions or want to volunteer look for information on Facebook, or contact me at trpazke@yahoo.com.

Winter is Finally Here!!

Winter is finally here, and with it comes lots of great family activities.  Winter Family Fun Night is Tuesday, December 9th at 6:30-8:00pm.  Come decorate a cookie, do a holiday craft, hear a story, participate in the book walk or bid on an item during our Silent Auction!  This is a school favorite event!

Movie Night was a hit last month!  We hope that you will join us again on Friday December 12th with your family.  We will be showing Arthur Christmas.  As with all our Movie Nights, you must attend with your family, No drop offs!  Your $2.00 ticket gets you a bottle of water, a bag of popcorn and a fun movie with your Ocean View community!!  Bring your pillow, blanket and family!!

The Giving Trees are up and in the front office! During  this season of generosity consider spreading some cheer by helping someone in need.  We have teamed up with another elementary school, to provide gifts for 5 families.  Pick an ornament from the tree and bring your unwrapped item back to the school to be shared.

What: Fall Carnival

Who:    All Ocean View Families and Friends

When:  Saturday, October 25th

Where: Ocean View Elementary

Ocean View PTA needs your HELP!

We need candy donations and volunteers to make our Fall Carnival a success!!

Please bring bags of candy to the office. Our goal is 100 bags before Thursday, October 23rd.

Want to help with the Cookie Walk – please bring your donations individually wrapped on Friday or Saturday during set-up!

Decorating and set-up will be on Friday, October 24th, beginning at 1:00pm.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you at the CARNIVAL!

October, like every month is a busy one for PTA. Your students did a great job with our Innisbrook fundraiser. Nearly $10,500.00 worth of items were sold. Items will be arriving by the end of the month. Monies from fundraisers help to fund activities like the Fall Carnival being held on the 25th of October.

As a PTA, we have joined the Nation School of Excellence program. This program is to help our PTA strengthen the family-school partnership, to better welcome all families, communicate effectively, support student success, speak up for every child, share power and collaborate in the community.   To do so, a survey is completed by families in the school. From that information, a goal can be set and recommendations to better understand what we can do to improve our school. Once we have reached our goal, we will receive the National PTA School of Excellence distinction and recognition. This honor, helps to open doors for funding.  There are only 179 schools that have achieved this honor in the nation. Please help us to empower our school and students with this success.   The survey can be found at:

Teacher Conferences are October 22nd and 23rd. It is our pleasure as the PTA to provide lunch for our hard working teachers on those two days. If you would like to help, click on the volunteer tab and follow the link to perfectpotluck.com

Looking forward to working with all of you in the months to come!
